The Northwest Basketball Pep Band is made up of 30-40 musicians auditioned from the membership of the Bearcat Marching Band every October. Instrumentation includes piccolo, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, mellophone, trombone, baritone, sousaphone, electric bass, and drum set. The Northwest Pep Band performs for men’s and women’s basketball home games, the MIAA Basketball Tournament at Music Hall in downtown Kansas City and has performed at the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship game on CBS multiple times.
Members of the Northwest Pep Band are provided a jersey and are hired and paid as student employees. The group rehearses at the end of the fall and beginning of the spring as needed, and performs a wide variety of music. The group was featured by the NCAA in 2020 as a “top pick” among college pep bands.
